Animal Husbandry Technician (Part-Time)

Position Summary

We are seeking a part time animal care worker who will be responsible for routine husbandry and facility upkeep of a modestly sized discovery laboratory.  This 3 day per week role will be as a contributing member of an in vivo research team, and could include work with experiments when capabilities are demonstrated. The position will provide an opportunity to be part of an exciting company growing in both scope and capabilities. A qualified applicant should be enthusiastic about biomedical research and have a willingness to rapidly learn new skills and begin applying them.


  • Routine husbandry; including providing appropriate clinical observations, basic veterinary care, health checks, and cage changes
  • Contributing to the operation of the small species animal care facility (ACF) and discovery laboratory
    • Routine cleaning and sanitizing
    • Updating and tracking environmental logs
    • Stocking food, bedding, and supplies
    • Animal census tracking
  • Assisting with daily health and welfare inspections
  • Managing facility needs, including facility health program
  • Learning and providing daily technical support where appropriate:
    • Test article administration
    • Necropsies for biodistribution studies
    • Anesthesia and euthanasia support

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Desire to further knowledge in the biomedical/pharmaceutical research industry performing skills noted above
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Comfort with various computer operating systems and programs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Weekend work required
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds

Preferred but not required qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree or seeking degree in Animal Science or a related field
  • Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) or AAALAS certified
  • Experience with rodent animal facility operations
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, experimental design, and pharmacology a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to understand complex experimental designs
