Study Manager, Advanced Pathology Services

Invicro seeks a Study Manager to handle study management workflows and internal project compliance for histopathology and tissue imaging studies within the Advanced Pathology Services (APS) department at Invicro in our Boston, MA site.  This individual should enjoy challenging and analytical work and be motivated by the idea that together we can accomplish great things and make a positive contribution to society through our mission.

The Study Manager is responsible for managing the organization and reporting of preclinical studies based on high complexity immunohistochemistry and other advanced tissue analysis approaches unique to Invicro.   This includes standard and advanced staining and immunohistochemistry processes (IHC, IF, ISH, multiplexing, etc) and Invicro’s proprietary immunohistochemistry based (Quanticell™), Cryofluorescent Tomography (CFT), and autoradiography approaches.  Additionally, the Study Manager 1 will also support clinical studies evaluating patient samples from clinical trials using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent tissue staining, imaging, and image analysis approaches. The Study Manager will report to the Senior Study Manager for Advanced Pathology Services, and in partnership with their supervisor be focused on the achievement of departmental goals.

The Study Manager will participate as part of a larger cross-functional team to coordinate project planning and execution efforts, as well as data management and quality control activities.  They will provide a variety of supportive activities for the scientific team, including documentation, report generation, coordinating activities with laboratory team members, and monitoring project status and financial milestones. They will be responsible for specific study management and internal compliance activities using commercial project management tools and internal tools and databases, including LIMS, that support project functions at multiple sites within Invicro.

The ideal candidate has some knowledge in tissue staining, imaging, and image analysis techniques including understanding of theory in applying laboratory techniques, familiarity with image and data acquisition and analysis techniques, and experience in quality control and presentation of such data.  The ideal candidate must be able to learn and understand our proprietary processes that support drug discovery and development for our customers. They will demonstrate commitment to meeting timeline objectives, project deliverables, and quality metrics for our internal systems.  Importantly, the Study Manager 1 must be able to support dozens of simultaneous projects and move quickly between supported efforts to as a key liaison between internal customers and team members, without sacrificing quality.  They must also be able to maintain a positive attitude in this dynamic environment while interacting with all members involved in a study, by focusing on collaborative problem-solving while ensuring an environment of continuous improvement.  

Key Duties:

  • Organize and oversee data acquisition, reporting, and preparation of scientific presentations/interpretation of results for a given study using internal tools and databases.
  • Work closely with other cross-functional teams to ensure that all desired deliverables are generated in a scientifically relevant form, acceptable to send to the customer, and goals of a given study are clearly addressed.
  • Take ultimate responsibility for quality control of all results and reports, as well as making sure all study-specific tasks get completed satisfactorily
  • Oversee the progress of a study from data acquisition to presentation and through completion
  • Oversee and manage project timelines and progress while working closely with Laboratory Operations and Study Directors within APS to interface with customers and subcontractors on oversight of project finances
  • Function as a representative of the APS department within Invicro, working with cross functional teams such as our Image Analysis and Preclinical Imaging, and APS Business Development teams.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS with 2+ years of experience in a relevant field (e.g. engineering, physics, chemistry or biology) or MS (preferred)
  • Previous biomedical research experience
  • Ability to demonstrate past leadership experience in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Superior time- and project-management skills
  • Ability to work quickly with strict attention to detail
  • Adaptable, able to professionally and confidently interact with teammates and subcontractors, as well as prepare and deliver written summaries of work
  • Basic understanding of (or past exposure to) of histology, pathology, and image analysis techniques as applied to tissue microscopy.
