Make an impact at a dynamic and growing company! Invicro is seeking a Senior Scientist/Principle Scientist to join our Advanced Pathology Services team. The qualified candidate has training in pathology-based biomarkers with a focus in oncology and/or inflammation. This candidate will work as a part of a dynamic and matrix team and will support projects ranging from early discovery to early stage clinical trials and will provide scientific expertise to guide projects to successful completion.

Acting as a study director for Invicro’s Advanced Pathology Services, you will manage the execution, analysis and reporting of pathology-focused efforts and deliver the critical results which support our client’s drug pipelines in a diverse set of diseases, with a focus on cancer and inflammatory diseases.  As the scientific liaison to the customer, you will actively participate in building and maintaining relationships with our clients and partners in other business units.

The Senior Scientist/Principle Scientist will have accountability for developing a clear, fully resourced plan for project progression and delivering to agreed timelines.  They will take the lead on the design, development, and implementation of tissue pathology-based experiments to address the unique needs of our individual clients, with the goal to build lasting business relationships. The Senior Scientist/Principle Scientist works collaboratively with members of our Pathology team as well as the rest of Invicro’s Discovery and Preclinical Services team, as the key interface with our biopharma clients.  They will work within a dynamic and collaborative environment to deliver high-quality scientific data packages to meet experimental and organizational goals by interfacing with business development, sponsors, and laboratory staff to manage all aspects of scientific study management from initial design to final report.  The Senior Scientist/Principle Scientist is expected to author and review technical documents including study protocols, final reports, abstracts/manuscripts/white papers, and conference posters to support our clients efforts and internal efforts for scientific outreach.

The Senior Scientist/Principle Scientist should be familiar with immunohistochemistry assay development, pathology interpretations, fluorescent multiplex assays, whole slide scanning approaches and tissue image analysis methods. They will ideally have a proven record of relevant experience and expertise in translational pathology work in academia or biopharmaceutical industry.  They should also demonstrate adaptability and desire to learn new skills and core competencies and willingness to implement new technologies in translational pathology to support understanding and advancement of Invicro’s platform technologies and clients drug pipeline efforts.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as key point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders regarding pathology assay development for basic biology explorations, target engagement, pharmacodynamic response, safety biomarkers, and patient selection strategies.
  • Provide guidance to clients about the appropriate pathology modalities for a given need, and articulate the operational feasibility, advantages, and challenges of various pathology-based approaches.
  • Lead the design, development, validation, and employment of fit-for-purpose molecular pathology endpoints (including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in-situ hybridization, and other molecular pathology techniques)
  • Oversee digital image analysis processes and results, as well as manual pathology scoring for pathology endpoints.
  • Set appropriate timelines and expectations for projects and experiments
  • Critically analyze, interpret and challenge pathology results and statistical analysis of data with a firm grasp of scientific process and innovation
  • Identify and provide innovative solutions to complex problems, independently troubleshoot and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaboratively drive projects in team environment to meet established timelines while maintaining the highest quality and data integrity standards across multiple projects
  • Comply with established protocols and SOPs
  • Advise technical and junior staff
  • Be responsible for the integrity and quality of data developed from experiments
  • Present results and project updates to cross-functional teams and department meetings
  • Contribute to scientific literature through publication and presentation of research results

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • PhD in a relevant field (Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry ,etc) with 6-10 years’ experience, or Masters with ~12-15+ years applicable experience.
  • Deep sense of scientific excellence and integrity.
  • Experience with tissue pathology-based biomarker assay development.
  • Ability to design and execute experiments with independence, curiosity and scientific rigor.
  • Ability to interpret results and present findings in research team settings.
  • Experience working on a collaborative team in a matrixed organization.
  • Superior skills related to teamwork, multi-tasking, and time/project management.
  • Ability to interact professionally and confidentially with customers and subcontractors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with clear and effective communication skills to build positive relationships with our partners.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral summaries of study results.
  • Ability to develop protocols and SOPs quickly with strict attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism and other data analysis software.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MD, PhD in Cancer Biology or Pathology, or DVM
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in tissue-based pathology fields in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Professional experience in oncology therapeutic research, especially in immune-oncology or adoptive cell-therapy areas
  • Expertise in digital pathology image analysis techniques across a range of molecular pathology assay types.
  • Work experience in pathology analysis of solid tumor targeting projects, especially utilizing multiplex immunofluorescence and digital image analysis
  • Understanding of the drug development process and how pathology is utilized to impact decision making.
  • Experience with CAP/CLIA and other pathology-focused laboratory standards and requirements
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary trial teams and with pathology CROs.
  • Experience with molecular pathology-based companion diagnostic development preferred
